Jerusalem – Linga

The Liturgi-Kal Choir, an Israeli choir based in Netanya, Israel along with the Israel Chamber Orchestra, performed five concerts of Handel’s “Messiah” in the Hebrew language. The concerts ran from May 8 – May 13 in Kiriat Motzkin, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Handel’s incredible oratorio was first performed in the New Music rooms in Fishamble St., Dublin on April 13, 1742. The text is taken directly from the Bible and is a clear presentation of the story of the birth, life, death and resurrection of the Messiah from both the Old and the New Testaments. Since then, it has become classic repertoire across the world. The first two performances of “The Messiah” in Hebrew were completely sold out and had over a thousand attendants in Jerusalem.

The Liturgi-Kal Choir is a recently established choral group with singers from across the country of Israel. Featured soloists included: Nava Loden, soprano; Paulo Mestre, counter-tenor; Eitan Drori, tenor; and David Loden, bass. David Loden also serves as the resident choral director of Liturgi-Kal Choir.

The concert was conducted by Monica Meira Vasques, born and raised in Brazil but currently residing in Stuttgart, Germany. She is founder and director of the Academy Choir and the Academy Orchestra Stuttgart and has conducted across the world. The Israel Chamber Orchestra is a professional orchestra composed of local Israeli musicians and based in Tel-Aviv.
This unique production is an indicator of public interest in hearing classical repertoire performed in the Hebrew language. The Liturgi-Kal Choir is currently investigating other music in Hebrew for future performances.
