Jerusalem - linga
Light for all Nations, an evangelical Christian ministry led by Pastor Nizar Shaheen, hosted a day trip to the city of Jerusalem on Saturday, October 23rd. Assisting Pastor Nizar were Elias and Rose Obeid of Turan, who represent Light for all Nations in Israel. The day trip concentrated on the areas of Jerusalem associated with the earthly life of Jesus. More than 150 people from different churches and backgrounds attended the trip.
Aside from visiting the holy city and learning more about the Christian faith, the trip served another equally important purpose in providing an opportunity to follow up with several new believers. These new believers came to faith following the annual Mother’s Day celebration earlier this year. Pastor Nizar was the keynote speaker at that event and has been focused on reconnecting with those who made a decision for Christ as a result.
The journey began from the town of Nazareth and proceeded to the heart of Jerusalem. The first stop was the Garden Tomb. Pastor Nizar took time to share a description of the geography and history of the garden. He read from the Gospel of John chapter 21. He emphasized that the current argument concerning the actual location of the historical tomb (Garden Tomb vs Holy Sepulcher) was not important. What was important is the fact that Christ is alive and risen. Pastor Nizar offered an invitation and many participants responded and accepted Christ.
The second site of the day was the Mount of Olives, where Pastor Nizar shared in depth facts about the geography and history of Jerusalem. The participants found themselves racing the clock to reach all the sites before they closed. Among the sites visited were St. Peter’s Church where Jesus was imprisoned and Peter denied him three times; the Pool of Bethesda where Jesus healed a cripple; Antonia’s fortress where the trial of Jesus was conducted by Pontius Pilate and a walk down the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
At the end of the trip, the participants dispersed into the old market to buy souvenirs and traditional Jerusalem cakes. The return trip was filled with rejoicing and testimonies of what the Lord has done in their lives.
