On Tuesday, December 14th, the House of Light ministry in Shefamer, Israel recruited 15 believers from different churches throughout Israel to visit around 2000 Sudanese refugees held in Sahronim prison close to the Israeli-Egyptian border. The majority of the refugees were captured on the Israeli border after attempting to flee civil war in Sudan.

The ministry team left the Galilee around 4:00 AM with prayers for God to go ahead of them and open all the doors. The team received a warm welcome from the prison officers, workers and refugees. Several of the main officers assisted the team in arranging a program to reach every section of the prison. Each section was crowded with refugees and the team took time to share the Gospel and sing hymns with each group.

Individual bibles were distributed to the refugees in their native languages and many accepted the Lord as savior. The ministry team spent time in prayer and encouragement with these new believers.

The reaction of the imprisoned refugees was encouraging. Hearts were open and hungry for the Gospel message, especially because of its significance during Christmas. The team was quick to arrange a future visit to concentrate more time among the women and children, who are housed in a separate area.  The team plans to present dolls with a pocket tape recorder containing hymns and bible stories to the children on their next visit.

At the conclusion of the outreach day, the ministry team had lunch with the prison officers and expressed their thanks for allowing the visit. They were so grateful for the opportunity to minister among the Sudanese refugees as so many of the refugees suffer deep wounds from their escape from civil war and enforced separation from their families.

The trip home was filled with prayers of thanksgiving and praise, thanking the Lord for providing anointing and opening hearts to His gospel. Everyone joined in singing ‘This is the day that the Lord has made.’

The House of Light staff wishes to express gratitude to all who gave their time and dedicated their hearts in this outreach and continues to ask for prayer as they continue with their outreach to an additional 21 Israeli prisons in the coming months.
