In the mid eighties  throughout extracting a car that was stuck in the sand, there was the discovery of church ruins located in the South West of Jubail dated back to  the fourth century, which is the area where the first discovery of oil occured in Saudi Arabia.

This church is known as the Church of Jubail, although it was recognized by the Saudi bureaucracy, but it did not grant permits for visitations because it was still under exploration.

The church belongs to the fourth century AD and considered the oldest of all churches in Europe, and the ruins of it include 4 original stone crosses that disappeared later, and it might belong to the five Nestorian Bishoprics that were present in the Gulf region in that period.
